Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Heritage and Spiritual Care, this role serves as a member of the Heritage and Spiritual Care team and advances Baycrest’s specialized Holocaust survivor mandate by delivering trauma-informed social work services. This includes programming, community development, counselling, outreach, support groups, and system navigation support for clients. The role also leads Holocaust education and remembrance activities across Baycrest, including intergenerational programming and learning opportunities that honour survivor experience and strengthen connection across the campus and wider community.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma-informed social work services to clients, including Holocaust survivors (counselling, community development, advocacy, grief support, resources navigation, proactive outreach, etc.)
  • Organize and plan program content through in person, virtual or hybrid formats such as Café Europa and the Child Survivors Group
  • Coordinate educational activities related to Holocaust education and remembrance
  • Contribute to community-building initiatives that reduce isolation for Holocaust survivors
  • Maintain an ongoing evaluative component of the programs including tracking participation, feedback, and outcomes, and using findings to refine programming.
  • Provide support for volunteers and other inter-departmental partners involved with programs or initiatives, ceremonies, and other observances. Outreach to relevant community agencies and Baycrest staff who may partner within this portfolio of clients
  • Adhere to infection control practices, policies and procedures

 

Qualifications

  • Master of Social Work (MSW) degree required
  • Current registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) required
  • Demonstrated experience providing trauma-informed social work support to older adults, with particular expertise working with Holocaust survivors and their families
  • Experience working with caregivers and older adults, including the application of clinical assessment tools for clinical evaluation purposes in collaboration with community partners and service providers
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and delivering group-based, intergenerational, and/or educational programs and events, including logistics, participant experience, facilitation, follow-up supports and evaluation
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within an interprofessional team and with community partners
  • In depth knowledge of Jewish culture, traditions, holidays, and commemorative days (including Yom HaShoah), with experience supporting individuals across diverse Jewish identities, cultural backgrounds, and levels of observance, and an understanding of Jewish ritual objects and the Jewish calendar
  • Knowledge of community resources for seniors and caregivers, including home care navigation and long-term care planning
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear documentation, summaries, reports, and program or impact narratives
  • Proficiency with computer applications and clinical information systems, including Outlook, Meditech, Word, Excel, Activity Pro, and MDS preferred
  • Knowledge of Yiddish, Hungarian, Russian, or Hebrew considered an asset
