The incumbent will be responsible for providing 2nd level technical service, support, maintenance of classroom audio visual equipment for College and University faculty, staff and students. The incumbent must have excellent customer service skills and able to diagnose equipment malfunctions in the learning areas quickly due to time sensitive situations. The incumbent will support and coordinate technical Audio Video (AV) event set-ups. These will include but are not limited to the appropriate connectivity of audio/video multimedia, video conferencing, and synchronized presentational device/computer technologies. Provides support for remote monitoring of on-site projectors and environmental room control systems. Incumbent is responsible for the hardware installation and support of both academic, non-academic space as well as digital signage A/V systems.

The incumbent will accommodate early starts and/or late finishes required due to the nature of A/V work. The incumbent must be flexible to travel on support assignments at varied DC and or ON Tech campus locations; and off campus locations for event support.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Technical Support and Service

·         Provides service and support in response to service desk calls that require immediate resolution to A/V instructional /classroom issues.

·         Resolves A/V Service calls that are received in the call ticketing system or logs and resolves requests

·         Services, maintains, troubleshoots and repair hardware including but are not limited to data presenters, flexible teaching learning AV equipment solutions and flexible teaching/collaborative equipment, interactive boards, video/digital cameras, control systems and their related software applications.

·          Interprets user needs and demonstrates to faculty, staff and students the correct procedures for operating of A/V equipment.

·         Interprets A/V service manuals, documents, technical information notes and user guides.

·         Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of all analog and digital technology and how it is applied all facets of the position. e.g.: Display Port, Hi- Definition Multi-Media Interface (HDMI all versions) High-Definition Content Protection (HDCP) DVI, DVI-D, MAC Thunderbolt digital signal protocols.

·         Familiarizes self with knowledge of updated technologies and hardware for the conversion of analog to digital signals; Knowledge of how to configure, install calibrate and test both twisted pair and fiber optic transmitters and receivers, using the aforementioned signal protocols.

Equipment Installation

·         Evaluates and recommends new equipment purchases.

·         Works closely with management to design and develop instructional technology installations for DC. (and at Oshawa North Campus: DC/ON Tech).

·         Responsible for ensuring all equipment is received for assigned projects and

completing installations.  This includes but is not limited to projectors, large flat panel

monitors, projection screens and all cabling. Ensures that equipment is securely installed as per manufacturers and DC health & safety standards and once completed test as per specifications.

·         Participate in the installation of Major Digital Signage hardware and on-going maintenance for DC (and at Oshawa North Campus: DC/ON Tech). This includes but is not limited to assessment and initial support tri-age of: Video-Walls, Kiosks, large monitors, Mac Mini digital players hardware and cabling. Knowledge of Remote Access for on-going maintenance for the video wall is critical.

 

Equipment Set ups

·         Collaborates with staff/departments to facilitate DC, (and at Oshawa North Campus: DC/ON Tech) events, conference center and non- academic events.

·         Co-ordinates with 3rd Party vendors for large events, that is beyond the scope of A/V Services. 

·         Work independently and be prepared to work on site location.

·         Ensure security and safety of on-site equipment.

Specialized Support

·         Conducts sourcing and collaboration with vendor specialists as appropriate. Make purchase recommendations.

·         Collaborates with department manager/director in liaison with stakeholders, 3rd party vendors/consultants to facilitate equipment quotes for capital projects and operational solutions,

·         Provide AV configuration layouts and design outlines.

·         Investigates AV equipment queries with suppliers/vendors/ external 3rd parties.

·         Processes follow-up queries/ adjustments and updates with suppliers/vendors/ external 3rd parties.

 

General Support

·         Participates in continuous innovative planning for AV Service related process improvements for the short and long term.

·         Works closely with Service desk staff and other A/V team members.

·         Collaborates with other IT team members.

·         Maintains inventory of all equipment for which A/V department is responsible (including loaner and fixed equipment inventory).

·         Other duties as assigned by manager.

·         Purchasing, sourcing equipment and components for operational needs with best price comparisons.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

1.    Minimum of a three-year diploma/degree in Electronics, related Television Broadcasting, Sound Technology or Information Technology.

2.    A+ Certification and CTS Avixa Certification are required.

3.    Minimum of three years experience with document cameras, interactive boards, video/digital cameras set-up, control systems and their related software applications.

4.    Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and explain technical details in layman’s terms, so it is easy for clients to understand.

5.    Superior skills in time and project management, initiative, and attention to detail.

6.    Able to cope under high pressure and changes in priorities.

7.    Well-developed problem-solving skills in order to identify problems determine possible solutions and select the appropriate action.

8.    Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work well with others.


Required Experience

Hours: 35 hours per week (1) one hour lunch; Mon – Fri (8:00 am – 4:00 pm). Evening or weekend work may be required.
