OVERVIEW

The Clinical Lead provides clinical leadership and guidance within the Oncology/Ambulatory Infusion Clinic, ensuring safe, high-quality patient care through the assessment, administration of IV medications and transfusions, and continuous patient monitoring. This role coordinates daily unit activities, facilitates multidisciplinary collaboration, and supports discharge planning while ensuring physicians’ orders are accurately carried out. The Team Lead mentors and supports nursing staff, assists with orientation and education, and acts as a clinical resource for complex oncology cases. In addition, they contribute to scheduling, policy development, and quality improvement initiatives, fostering a safe, efficient, and patient-centered care environment.


ROLE

  • Provide leadership and clinical guidance to the oncology nursing team, ensuring high standards of patient care
  • Assess, administer IV medications, perform transfusions, and monitor patients to ensure safe and effective treatment delivery
  • Coordinate all activities related to patient care on the unit in an organized and proficient manner
  • Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes
  • Ensure physicians’ orders are accurately carried out and oversee the safe administration of medications and treatments
  • Act as a clinical resource for complex oncology cases and infusion therapies, offering expertise and support to staff
  • Participate in discharge planning, multidisciplinary rounds, and palliative care planning to support comprehensive patient care
  • Support staff development through mentorship, education, and performance feedback, including orientation of new team members
  • Contribute to policy development, quality improvement initiatives, and accreditation readiness to advance unit performance
  • Champion safety, efficiency, and best practices in oncology care delivery, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration
  • Team Lead Responsibilities (3 admin shifts per week)

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S) 

  •  Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited university
  • Current Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Training through the Cancer Program (DeSouza Institute or equivalent)
  • Current DeSouza Bio-Chemo Certification
  • Current CPR
  •  IV certification
  • RVH Mentoring
  • Willingness to obtain CVAA and CNA certification in oncology nursing

REQUIRED SKILL(S) & EXPERIENCE(S)

  • Minimum 3–5 years of recent oncology nursing experience
  • Previous experience in a Team Lead or leadership role is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and support staff in a dynamic clinical environment
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
  • Previous emergency or ambulatory care experience an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively as a team member in an interdisciplinary setting
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Current knowledge of oncology drugs, treatments, and their interaction

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

 

Location: Multi-Site, working on site at both the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) located in Bracebridge and Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) located in Huntsville. Applicants must reside within 125km of one of our hospital campuses or be willing to relocate prior to starting. *Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis

 

Hours of Work:  Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements per the collective agreement.
