OVERVIEW
The Privacy and Information Coordinator will promote a strong privacy culture as well as support the release of information within the organization. This position will assist with the implementation of a corporate privacy program which will support all Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) agents to keep informed of their legal duties under the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA). The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) is to be upheld by the Privacy and Information Coordinator by ensuring processes are maintained in accordance with the Act to provide access to the public in accordance with its principles.
ROLE
- Collaborates with Manager, Health Data and Privacy to implement a corporate privacy program to include a statement of ethical principles/policies for the protection of personal health information based on PHIPA
- Serves in an advisory role and answers questions about information practices and assists the organization to comply with the Act
- Collaborates with Manager, Health Data and Privacy to establish and administer a process for receiving, documenting, tracking, investigating and taking effective action on all patient, staff and public complaints concerning the Hospital’s privacy policies and procedures
- Performs information privacy and security reviews and conducts related ongoing compliance monitoring activities in coordination with the Hospital’s other compliance and operational assessment functions
- Audits performed to assess information collection and how it is accessed, used, and disclosed
- Works with management, legal counsel, key departments and committees to ensure the hospital maintains privacy, security and confidentiality measures and processes (e.g. consent forms, audit programs)
- Processes and tracks FIPPA requests through all stages to completion within a timely manner
- Releases personal health information requests to nonclinical requestors (i.e. legal, insurance, CNO, CPSO)
- Works with hospital personnel involved with the release of information to ensure full coordination and cooperation under the hospital’s information privacy and security policies and legal requirements are upheld
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma or degree in Health Information Management, or a combination of education, training and moderate experience in information management and access and privacy legislation
- Canadian Health Information Management Association certification and current active status
- Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada credential is an asset
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience
- Recent experience in the application of provincial privacy statutes including PHIPA and FIPPA and other relevant legislative Acts
- Experience in information privacy and security policy development, education, complaints investigation, information privacy and security technology assessment
- Experience in the use of privacy and security assessment tools such as privacy impact assessments, threat and risk assessments and corporate information security reviews. Experience should be relative to the size and scope of the Hospital
- Knowledge and experience in relevant information privacy laws (e.g. Public Hospitals Act, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act), release of information and access laws

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Location: Multi-Site, working on site at both the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) located in Bracebridge and Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) located in Huntsville. Applicants must reside within 125km of one of our hospital campuses or be willing to relocate prior to starting. *Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis
Hours of Work: Shifts will be Monday to Friday 8 am - 4 pm, however shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements. You may also be required to be available evenings and weekends.
