Working together to provide outstanding integrated health care to our communities delivering best patient outcomes with exemplary standards and compassion, Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) is a multi-site organization that includes Huntsville District Memorial Hospital Site and South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Site. 

 

ROLE 

  • In collaboration with the Laboratory Manager, oversee and coordinate the overall day to day operation of the laboratory and Almaguin Highlands Health Center Collection Centre
  • Coordinate the daily department activities including personnel, patient care and regulatory compliance through direction of the Laboratory manager and Director of the Laboratory
  • Maintain ability to perform the range of tests and procedures related to the laboratory. May be required to work as a bench technologist as needed
  • Ensure instrument maintenance and QC is performed, monitored and reported as per established procedures
  • Ensure proper technical procedures are followed by lab staff so that the work output meets established requirements (e.g. Health and Safety, Accreditation, EQA)
  • Key Operator for the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
  • Perform the role of Accreditation Canada Diagnostics Coordinator
  • Participate in Laboratory Quality System Management (meetings, process control, audits, competency assessment, risk management etc.) to ensure conformance with Accreditation Canada requirements
  • Responsible for organizing staffing schedules, assessing staffing needs, may approve overtime and /or vacation as per the OPSEU Collective Agreement and department guidelines
  • Provide mentorship to Laboratory staff
 

REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S) 

  • Graduated from a recognized Medical Laboratory Technology program
  • Current professional registration and licensure with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
  • Advanced certification in medical laboratory theory, principles and practices or equivalent, preferred
  • Specific coursework leading to Quality Manager Certification from a recognized provider

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)

  • Two (2) years of Leadership experience in a supervisory role
  • Minimum of 7 years of current clinical experience related to Medical Laboratory Technology
  • Computer literate and strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of relevant health care regulations

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

 

Location: Multi-Site, working on site at both the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) located in Bracebridge and Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) located in Huntsville. Applicants must reside within 125km of one of our hospital campuses or be willing to relocate prior to starting. *Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis

 

Hours of Work: Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements per the collective agreement.
