ROLE
As a Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy Assistant (PTA/OTA), you will perform clinical duties and implements treatment plans as assigned under the direction and supervision of the physiotherapist or occupational therapist as appropriate. Additionally, you will;
- Monitors clients during exercise, response to treatment and reports changes to the supervising physiotherapist or occupational therapist
- Implements treatment plans as directed by the physiotherapist or occupational therapist
- Teaches and adjusts gait aids
- Assists clients in/out of bed safely
- Performs lifts and transfers safely, transports clients to and from rehab department as required
- Utilizes modalities such as laser, ultrasound, TENS, EMS, hot wax, ice/hot wax, whirlpool as directed by the supervising physiotherapist or occupational therapist
- Documents on patient charts utilizing SOAP/SWOT formats according to institutional guidelines, scope of practice and standards under the respective college of physiotherapists or occupational therapists
- Maintains records of workload and service statistics and submits to administration in a timely manner
- Assist patients with walking, transfers and safe mobility, individual cognitive, perceptual, activities of daily living and physical programs
- Order prescribed assistive or adaptive equipment as assigned by the physiotherapist or occupational therapist
REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)
- Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy Assistant Diploma
- Physiotherapy Assistant Diploma, (for physio only)
- Valid Driver’s Licence and vehicle required
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills with staff, patients and families
- Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information and ensures security of patient documentation
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills including legibility, familiarity with medical terminology
- Works within their scope of practice
- Demonstrates excellent organizational skills

Current First Aid and CPR Certification

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Location: Multi-Site, working on site at both the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) located in Bracebridge and Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) located in Huntsville. Applicants must reside within 125km of one of our hospital campuses or be willing to relocate prior to starting. *Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis
Hours of Work: Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements per the collective agreement.
