Working together to provide outstanding integrated health care to our communities delivering best patient outcomes with exemplary standards and compassion, Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) is a multi-site organization that includes Huntsville District Memorial Hospital Site and South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Site. 

 

ROLE 

Did you know that at MAHC, we prepare all patient meals in-house? That's correct! Our Food Services team dedicates itself to crafting fresh meals and snacks right here on-site for our patients. In fact, some of these dishes feature ingredients harvested from our own gardens. Critical to delivering these exceptional meal options is having a dedicated Cook at the helm. We are currently seeking a Cook who can bring a deep understanding of culinary techniques and who applies creativity in crafting delicious and nutritious meals. Duties of this position include; 

  • Assist with menu planning and recipe development
  • Ensure proper stock rotation as per departmental policies and procedures; assist with keeping storage areas, refrigerators and freezers clean and organized
  • Prepare, cook and assemble food for patients, staff and other clients according to Food Premises Regulations and department safety and sanitation policies and procedures; keep work area clean
  • Meet quality standards and food preparation deadlines for scheduled mealtimes and catering events
  • Prepare appropriate quantities of food to ensure best use of resources

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)  

  • Red Seal Cook Certificate (Assistant Cook or Institutional Cook Certificate is the minimum requirement for staff grandfathered into this position)

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S) 

  • Healthcare food service experience
  • Positive attitude to changing environment 
  • Good working relationships and strong interpersonal skills 
  • Self-motivated and able to work well under direct supervision or independently 
  • Proven record of excellent punctuality and attendance 
  • Must meet physical requirements of the position which includes lifting, standing and walking for long periods of time

 

DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION 

  • Current Food Handler Certificate from Public Health

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

 

Location: Multi-Site, working in person at both the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) located in Bracebridge and Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) located in Huntsville. 

 

Department: Food & Nutrition Services. 

 

Hours of Work: Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements per the collective agreement. 

 

Conditions of employment for external hires includes;

·         Proof of immunization and vaccination records to the Hospital’s Occupational Health and Safety department 

·         Legal entitlement to work in Canada

·         Satisfactory Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check
