ROLE
As a Laboratory Technician, you are a vital member of the Laboratory Department performing duties such as:

Receive, identify, separate, record and distribute biological specimens for in house analysis or to a reference laboratory.

Perform venipuncture, capillary collection and ECG’s on in and outpatients; Holter monitoring installation at the Almaguin Highlands Health Centre.

Separate, file, sort and distribute laboratory reports.

Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

Must be able to plan and organize workflow.

Documentation of procedures for statistical and billing purposes of the Laboratory.

Must be able to work independently and meet the physical demands required for venipuncture collection and ECG tracing (back mobility and reaching).

Performs testing procedures as required in other areas in the Laboratory such as Microbiology and Pathology
REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)
-
Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant Program
-
Current Lab Assistant Certification with either the Medical Laboratory Professional’s Association of Ontario (MLPAO) or the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)

Laboratory training will occur on site

Previous working knowledge and experience in a computerized hospital laboratory in an acute care setting performing ECG, inpatient and outpatient blood collection and specimen reception.

Computer knowledge and usage. (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel)

Require knowledge of instrumentation principles

Perform or call-in appropriate personnel for maintenance of instrumentation

Knowledge of blood collection systems
DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION

1-2 years’ experience in a Hospital Laboratory Setting

Demonstrated experience working to Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician full scope of practice

Location: Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) located in Huntsville
Department: Laboratory
Hours of Work: Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements per the collective agreement.
