The Hospital Supervisor is responsible for overseeing hospital-wide services during their shift, providing leadership and support across departments, and ensuring effective communication through staff huddles and unit rounding. They manage resource allocation, patient flow, risk management, and quality improvement, while promoting patient and family-centered care. The role also involves coordinating with senior leadership on bed management, crisis situations, and supporting teams in delivering high-quality patient care aligned with the hospital’s mission, vision, and values.
ROLE
- Ensure nursing care aligns with hospital policies, procedures, and objectives while meeting the standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Foster a culture of patient safety, prioritize safety practices, and ensure compliance with safety protocols and procedures.
- Monitor nurse-patient ratios and staffing needs, making decisions to maintain appropriate care levels.
- Act as a key point of contact for hospital staff, patients, and other departments, addressing concerns and providing guidance.
- Collaborate with the interprofessional team to optimize resource availability and patient care processes.
- Support corporate patient safety and infection control initiatives, including hand hygiene and infection prevention protocols.
- Supervise patient flow, remove barriers to discharge, and ensure efficient movement of patients between departments.
- Address operational bottlenecks, communicate patient flow issues, and create daily bed management plans for both hospital sites.
- Supervise staff, enforce personnel policies, and ensure adherence to collective agreements while supporting professional accountability.
- Maintain a safe working environment, address health and safety concerns, and manage staffing requirements in compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCES
- Baccalaureate level preparation preferred in a healthcare related field
- 3-5 years current progressive experience in related clinical setting
- Certified leadership courses an asset
- Previous management experience an asset
- Promotes and provides patient / family-centred care
- Excellent computer skills having worked with Microsoft Office, Word, Teams, and Excel
- Highly motivated and flexible with the ability to adapt quickly to new situations/challenges
- Demonstrated appreciation and respect for protocol, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Awareness of community supports and services for identified populations would be an asset

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Location: Multi-Site, working at both the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) located in Bracebridge and Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) located in Huntsville.
Hours of Work: Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements.
