Volunteer and Community Engagement Manager - Ontario
This is approximately a 10-month contract position.

Breakthrough T1D is adding to our Volunteer and Community Engagement team and we’re searching for an experienced and passionate community-connector in the Greater Toronto/Southwest Ontario Area for the role of Volunteer and Community Engagement Manager for a 10-month maternity leave contract.
Here’s what your primary responsibilities would be:
- Guide and support volunteer Walk committees in Ontario to ensure successful community events.
- Ensure committee roles are filled with development plans in place.
- Maximize volunteer advocate engagement through effective promotion of advocacy opportunities.
- In conjunction with Government Relations staff, maximize volunteer advocate engagement through effective promotion of advocacy related opportunities and identification of leadership volunteers.
- Develop and support new volunteers through recruitment, onboarding, and training.
- Drive regional volunteer engagement programming in support of organizational objectives.
- Engage with Diabetes Education Centres and healthcare providers to promote support programs.
- Act as a centralized contact for volunteer inquiries and connect individuals to resources.
- Support fundraising efforts by identifying potential prospects for staff.
- Track engagement activity in Breakthrough T1D’s CRM.
- Operate within the philosophy, culture, and values of the Foundation.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
Knowledge/Skills/Experience
- University or College degree
- 4-5 years of proven experience in advocacy, program development or fundraising experience
- 2-3 years direct experience managing volunteers and full-cycle volunteer recruitment or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience using CRM to capture data, provide analysis and create reports
Working Style
- Demonstrated progressive experience in volunteer management, advocacy, program development or fundraising
- Experience working in a team environment and matrix management portfolio
- Self-motivated and customer service-oriented
- Ability to work within tight timelines and prioritize work in a fast-paced dynamic environment
- Strong written and oral communication skills in order to successfully interact with external customers and staff within the organization
- Strong interpersonal, customer service, problem solving, and planning skills are required
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office including Teams
Other position requirements to note:
- Valid driver’s license required and access to a vehicle preferred, with flexibility to travel throughout the region and to attend evening and weekend events
The salary range for this role is anticipated to be $62,000-$68,000 (based on an annual salary), commensurate with skills and experience level of the selected candidate.
Location Preference: Greater Toronto Area or Southwestern Ontario (London, Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas). Breakthrough T1D is remote-first so this position will work from a home-office.
