Fred Welsh Ltd. team in conjunction with Trotter & Morton Ltd. (FWL-TM) is looking for a motivated individual to join our team in Duncan British Columbia to assist on the Cowichan District Hospital Replacement Project. We are committed to creating a safe and productive environment for our team and clients. We are currently seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Site Safety Advisor to join our team on a part-time basis.

Position Type: Part-Time (2 days a week)

Compensation: Hourly rate ranges from $40.86 to $43.27 

This is an “Onsite” position that will be based in a construction site in Duncan, British Columbia.

Roles and Responsibilities

Safety Inspections and Audits:

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations
  • Prepare detailed reports of inspections, including observations, recommendations, and follow-up actions

Safety Training and Awareness:

  • Deliver safety training programs for site personnel to promote a culture of safety
  • Ensure all employees are familiar with site-specific safety protocols and emergency procedures

Incident Management:

  • Respond to and investigate safety incidents, accidents, and near-misses
  • Document and report incidents, analyze root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure site operations comply with local, provincial, and federal safety regulations, as well as industry best practices
  • Stay updated on changes in safety regulations and standards and implement necessary adjustments

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with site management, site employees and to promote safety and address safety-related concerns
  • Facilitate regular safety meetings and communicate safety updates and initiatives effectively.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training, incidents, and compliance activities.
  • Prepare and submit safety performance reports to management as required.

Required Skills

  • Effective Communication skills, both written & oral
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and work effectively with others
  • Ability to engage and coach individual's
  • A good understanding of Microsoft Office applications
  • Attention to detail in completing documentation and managing computer systems e.g. Procore, Power BI

Required Experience

  • Completion of or working towards an accredited Occupational Health & Safety Certificate
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) is preferred 
  • Experience in a Health and Safety role, usually evidenced by 5 years of experience
  • Experience working in the construction industry is an asset

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License is required
