At Trotter & Morton, our people are our greatest strength. We are seeking a Manager, BIM/VDC Operations to lead our digital construction initiatives and expand the use of BIM/VDC across divisions. This role will establish and advance standards, processes, and technologies that improve project delivery, support prefabrication, and drive long-term growth. The Manager will drive innovation, ensure compliance, and foster collaboration across teams and stakeholders. By providing leadership, mentorship, and operational oversight, this position will ensure BIM/VDC practices deliver both immediate project success and strategic value to the organization.

Roles and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Build and lead divisional BIM/VDC initiatives aligned with organizational and divisional strategies.
  • Establish BIM/VDC objectives that support both project execution and long-term growth.
  • Champion innovation and digital transformation by evaluating and implementing emerging technologies.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce BIM/VDC standards, workflows, and best practices across divisions.
  • Maintain and regularly update BIM/VDC procedures, including:
    •  Estimating procedures
    •  VDC processes and templates
    •  Revit library management (family management, system types, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with BIM Execution Plans, corporate policies, industry standards, and contractual obligations.
  • Oversee divisional goals and objectives related to BIM/VDC, construction, and prefabrication solutions to ensure alignment with overall business strategy.
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and strategic updates to senior leadership and construction directors.

Team Leadership

  • Mentor and develop BIM/VDC Managers, Designers, Coordinators, and team members across divisions.
  • Promote collaboration, synergy, and knowledge sharing between teams to foster a “one company” culture.
  • Build and strengthen internal team relationships across divisions to encourage alignment and collaboration.
  • Align team resources with project demands, ensuring appropriate staffing and technical expertise.
  • Establish and oversee training programs to elevate technical capacity, enhance performance, and support succession planning.

Operational Oversight

  • Direct and oversee VDC assignments, ensuring quality, consistency, and alignment with divisional needs.
  • Oversee model governance, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and usability for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Drive efficiencies in construction workflows, prefabrication, field layout, and coordination processes through technology adoption and digital solutions.
  • Monitor and report on progress toward construction and prefabrication objectives, ensuring divisional initiatives support project delivery and long-term efficiency.
  • Review RFQs/RFPs, provide estimates, and prepare BIM execution plans in collaboration with estimating and proposal teams.
  • Lead turnover-to-operations and divisional coordination meetings to resolve cross-discipline or cross-division challenges proactively.
  • Coordinate and facilitate project closeout, capture lessons learned, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Business Development & Client Engagement

  • Develop and maintain strong external relationships with clients, consultants, trade partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Act as the divisional point of contact between project teams, executives, and external partners.
  • Collaborate with proposal teams to prepare RFP/RFQ documentation.
  • Support estimating teams by reviewing estimates, proposals, and pursuits in line with corporate authority.
  • Assist in developing project execution budgets and aligning them with operational needs.

  • Firm understanding of BIM/VDC processes and developments

  • Advanced proficiency in BIM/VDC software platforms (Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD etc)
  • Facility Data Asset Management Experience (Drofus)
  • Experience managing multiple teams across divisions, with strong people-leadership skills.
  • Ability to develop, mentor, and grow high-performing BIM/VDC professionals.
  • Experience working with both large-scale complex projects and smaller, fast-paced delivery models
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage executives, clients, consultants, and trades.
  • Strong background in both design coordination and construction execution, including experience with prefabrication and digital field workflows.

Required Experience and Education

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the construction industry
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with BIM/VDC Tools (Revit / AutoCAD / etc.) 
  • Completion of a College or University level engineering degree is an asset
  • Completion of Journeyperson Mechanical or Electrical trade certification is an asset
  • Diploma or Technical Certificate in drafting, design technology, or construction technology is an asset
  • Professional Certifications in Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks etc are an asset
